Manuel Jung is a doctoral student and research associate at the Department of Science, Technology and Society (TUM), affiliated with the Munich Cluster for the Future of Mobility in Metropolitan Regions (MCube). His research focuses on real-world laboratories and experiments as tools for socio-technical transformations in urban mobility. He was a visiting scholar at University College London's STS Department in Fall 2024.
He holds an MA in Science and Technology Studies from TUM and dual Bachelor's degrees in Energy Engineering (FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg) and Philosophy & Economics (University of Würzburg). As a student assistant, he contributed to the EU Horizon 2020 project SCALINGS, exploring societal integration in science and innovation.
Key research areas include mobility experiments, sustainability governance, and public experimentation in urban systems. His work bridges technical systems analysis with sociopolitical dimensions of transition governance. Recent publications address roles of experiments in local transition frameworks and temporal dynamics in mobility policy interventions.
Current projects include Responsible Mobility Innovation and Experimentation (ReMIX) (2024–present) and Transformative Mobilitätsexperimente (TrEx) (2021–2024). His policy reports analyze EU-LAC mobility ventures and solar energy adoption strategies in Nicaragua.
