Vita-Salute San Raffaele Universityمعرفی
Manfredi Angelo Andrea Maria is an Associate Professor of Rheumatology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy. He serves as Head of the Autoimmunity and Vascular Inflammation Unit at the Division of Regenerative Medicine, Stem Cells and Gene Therapy, Istituto Scientifico H San Raffaele. Additionally, he coordinates Rheumatology for the Clinical Immunological Medicine Unit at the Department of Internal and Specialist Medicine, Istituto Scientifico San Raffaele.
His educational background includes:
- 1989: Degree cum laude in Allergy and Clinical Immunology, University of Milano
- 1985: Member of the Italian College of Physicians and Surgeons
- 1985: M.D. cum laude, University of Milano
- 1979: High school diploma with maximum marks (60/60), Classical Lyceum "Berchet" Milano
Professor Manfredi's research focuses on the innate response to primary inflammatory signals in human diseases, particularly autoimmune diseases and systemic vasculitis. His work investigates pathways regulating the clearance of apoptotic cells in autoimmunity and cancer. His research spans immunology, rheumatology, and regenerative medicine, with particular emphasis on understanding the biological basis of immunity-related disorders and developing novel therapeutic approaches.
Analysis of his recent publications (2024) reveals a strong focus on the intersection of immunology with neurology, cardiology, and geriatrics. His work examines inflammatory markers across diverse conditions from neuropsychiatric lupus to post-COVID complications. There's significant emphasis on biomarker discovery, particularly pentraxin 3, and investigation of frailty in aging populations through the FRASNET cohort studies. His research increasingly bridges traditional rheumatology with neurological and psychiatric manifestations of inflammatory conditions.
His scientific awards and recognitions include:
- "Most Influential Paper Award" San Raffaele 2016 for Translational Medicine
- Fellow of Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere (2019-present)
- Fellow of Società Italiana di Reumatologia (2014-present)
- Fellow of Faculty of 1000 (2010-2017)
- Fellow of Società Italiana di Immunologia, Immunologia Clinica e Allergologia (2000-present)
Professor Manfredi has served as Associate Editor for Clinical & Experimental Immunology and on editorial boards for Pharmacological Research and Frontiers in Immunology. He has been an active member of doctoral committees for the International PhD Program in Molecular Medicine at San Raffaele from 2015 to 2024. As a grant reviewer, he has consulted for numerous national and international organizations including MIUR, Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Ministero della Salute, and research councils from multiple countries.
He leads the Autoimmunity and Vascular Inflammation Unit at Istituto Scientifico San Raffaele, which focuses on translational research connecting basic immunological mechanisms with clinical applications in autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. His team investigates cellular and molecular pathways involved in immune dysregulation, with particular emphasis on novel therapeutic approaches for autoimmune disorders through advanced cellular therapies and biomarker discovery.
