Manfred Schwaba

Manfred Schwaba is a researcher at the Institute of Landscape Architecture, part of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). His work focuses on landscape architecture, cultural heritage conservation, and sustainable land use, with a particular emphasis on urban planning and open space management.

Research Interests: Schwaba explores the intersection of cultural memory and landscape reuse, particularly in historical and urban contexts. His projects address the integration of sustainable practices into spatial planning, with a regional focus on Southeastern Europe. His research often involves interdisciplinary collaboration with institutions in Austria and neighboring countries.

• Landscapes of Infrastructure Salzkammergut (2023–2024): A national research project examining infrastructure landscapes.
• CultTour (2011–2014): An EU-funded initiative analyzing cultural heritage as a driver for sustainable tourism.

Knowledge Transfer: Schwaba co-authored reports on cultural garden heritage for sustainable tourism (2015) and Vienna's street space characteristics (2014). He presented at the 2013 1st Annual CCCS Conference in North Macedonia, focusing on cultural memory applications.
