Dr. Manel del Castillo Rey is Professor of Healthcare Management at the University of Barcelona and Visiting Professor at IESE, ESADE, and La Salle business schools. Since 2003, he has served as Managing Director of Barcelona's Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, concurrently chairing the European Children's Hospital Organisation (ECHO) since 2020. In 2024, he was appointed President of Catalonia's Healthcare System Reform Committee (CAIROS). His career includes former leadership roles at IB-Salud Balears, Manacor Hospital Foundation, and Badalona Municipal Hospital.
His research advances healthcare management systems, pediatric care innovation, and public health policy reform, emphasizing leadership and people-centered approaches. He holds a Doctor of Medicine (University of Barcelona) and Master's in Public Business Management (ESADE).
