Mandy Espezel is a Canadian artist and recurrent sessional instructor in the Art Department at the University of Lethbridge, situated on Treaty 7 land (traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy). Originally from Treaty 8 territory (Cree, Dene, and Métis lands), they hold a BFA from the University of Alberta (2007) and an MFA from the University of Lethbridge (2012). Their work has been supported by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and Canada Council for the Arts.
Research Focus
Espezel's interdisciplinary practice merges traditional mediums with critical theory, exploring:
- Materiality through painting, sculpture, and installation
- Intersectional-feminist frameworks and phenomenological inquiry
