Mandana Behbahani

Mandana Behbahani, MD, serves as an Attending Physician and Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical expertise centers on pediatric neurosurgery, encompassing neuro-oncology, skull base surgery, neuro-endoscopy, epilepsy management, and complex spinal pathologies.

Dr. Behbahani's educational journey began with a B.S. in Microbiology from Arizona State University. She earned her M.D. with Research Distinction from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, completed neurosurgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and pursued pediatric neurosurgery fellowship training at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

Her research program investigates molecular mechanisms in pediatric brain tumors, particularly focusing on neurofibromatosis-associated tumors (schwannomas, meningiomas), intraoperative imaging for precise tumor resection, and innovative approaches to DIPG including liquid biopsy and epigenetic modulation. These studies bridge laboratory findings with clinical applications to improve outcomes for children with brain tumors.
