Manasvi Lingam is an Assistant Professor at the Florida Institute of Technology, affiliated with the Department of Aerospace, Physics and Space Sciences and serving as Director of Graduate Studies (Chair of GRASP) for the Physics & Space Sciences Program. He holds secondary appointments in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and the Department of Mathematics and Systems Engineering.
- Undergraduate: Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay), Engineering Physics
- PhD: The University of Texas at Austin, Theoretical Physics
- Postdoctoral: Princeton University (plasma astrophysics), Harvard University (applied mathematics), Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (astrophysics and astrobiology)
His research bridges astrobiology, planetary habitability, biophysics, and plasma physics, with a focus on modeling living systems, habitability constraints, biosignature detection, and advanced space propulsion. He also explores interdisciplinary topics like bioenergetic evolution and deep learning applications in astrodynamics.
His 15 most recent publications span 2024-2025, with themes in astrobiology, space exploration, and plasma physics. Key trends include quantitative habitability models, technosignature frameworks, and advanced mission design for exoplanetary systems.
He serves as Senior Editor for the journal Astrobiology and contributes to editorial boards of Life and Frontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences. He has delivered over 30 invited talks and participated in 70+ conference presentations, and actively contributes to NASA/NSF panel reviews.
At Florida Tech, Lingam supervises 2 PhD students, co-supervises 2-3 PhDs, and has graduated 1 PhD and 4 MS students. He chairs university committees including Faculty Senate and Graduate Council, and directs the Physics & Space Sciences Program as GRASP Chair.
