Manar Darwish serves as Senior Lecturer and Director of Arabic and Director of Arabic Language Study in Sijal at Bryn Mawr College, affiliated with the Department of Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and North African Studies.
Her academic background includes undergraduate studies at the American University in Cairo and graduate work at the University of Washington in Seattle, where her thesis analyzed "The Inscriptional Evidence from the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque: 750-1099: An Analysis."
With over 25 years of teaching experience, her research spans Arabic Literature (Classical and Modern), Islamic Studies, Gender Studies, Qur'anic Studies, and Middle Eastern Media and Culture with specialized focus on Egypt. Her scholarly work integrates linguistic, historical, and cultural dimensions of Arabic language instruction.
She directs both the Arabic program at Bryn Mawr College and the Arabic Language Study initiative at Sijal Institute, reflecting leadership in language pedagogy and program development.
