Hande Yalnizoglu is a DPhil student at the University of Oxford and a Tutor in the Faculty of Oriental Studies. Her research focuses on Ottoman governance of disease and health in Baghdad during the 19th century, particularly examining epidemics like plague and cholera through the lens of environmental history, Ottoman studies, and imperial history.
Her broader research interests include the social histories of Arab provinces under Ottoman rule, intellectual histories of human-nature relationships, and 19th-century global knowledge networks. She received the Hadid Doctoral Scholarship from the Middle East Centre (University of Oxford) in 2019-2020.
