Professor Mamas Mamas is a Professor of Cardiology at Keele University and an Honorary Professor of Population Health at the University of Manchester. He trained in medicine at the University of Oxford, completing an MA in Physiological Sciences (1994) and a DPhil funded by the British Heart Foundation (1994–1997). His clinical and academic career includes roles as an interventional cardiologist, clinical lecturer, and senior clinical lecturer. He leads the Royal Stoke Hospital's research division and focuses on cardiovascular outcomes using large-scale electronic health records.
Research Interests: Professor Mamas specializes in outcomes research, leveraging big data from national and international registries. His work addresses percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), acute coronary syndromes, structural cardiac interventions, heart failure, and comorbidity. He has developed risk stratification models, including the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) risk score. Over 250 peer-reviewed manuscripts reflect his contributions to cardiovascular epidemiology and intervention.
Publications Highlight: Recent work includes analyses of valve replacement outcomes, disparities in NSTEMI mortality by diabetes status, and the impact of social vulnerability on cardiovascular mortality. His research bridges clinical practice and population-level trends, emphasizing health inequities and chronic disease comorbidities.
