Malte Wittmaack is a Researcher at the University of Bielefeld's Department of History within the Faculty of History, Philosophy and Theology. He is affiliated with the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1288 'Practices of Comparison. Ordering and Changing the World', specifically Subproject D03[B01], focusing on 'The Compared Body: Order in Human Diversity (16th–19th Centuries)'. His research bridges early modern history, body studies, and cultural contact history, with a particular emphasis on the Ottoman Empire. He holds a Master's degree in History (2017–2019) and is currently pursuing a PhD on 'Body – Orders – World Relations' using German-language travelogues to analyze cultural interactions.
His research interests include historical-somatological perspectives, dike and sluice systems in Frisia, and the history of (in)security. He teaches at the Department of History and contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives like the BiSEd (Bielefeld Interdisciplinary School of Education). Office hours are held Thursdays 4:30–5:30 PM during the summer semester 2025 via ekvv registration.
