Malte Krack is a Full Professor (W3) at the University of Stuttgart's Institute of Aircraft Propulsion (ILA), part of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering and Geodesy (Faculty 6). He leads the Structural Mechanics/Dynamics research group, focusing on contact processes (friction, impacts) and their impact on structural dynamics. His work addresses aerospace applications, including vibration damping in turbine blades and energy harvesting through nonlinear systems.
Education & Career:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering (2014), Leibniz University Hannover
- Postdoc at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2015)
- Junior Professor (Tenure Track) at University of Stuttgart (2016–2021)
- Full Professor since 2021
Research Interests: Structural mechanics/dynamics, nonlinear vibration analysis, friction damping, impact dynamics, and energy transfer mechanisms. His group develops novel theories, numerical methods, and experimental setups to address industrial challenges in aerospace propulsion systems.
Awards & Activities:
- 2025 C.D. Mote Jr. Early Career Award (ASME)
- Co-speaker of Collaborative Research Center SynTrac (TRR 364)
- Editorial roles: Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, Journal of Vibrations and Acoustics
- Keynote speaker at international conferences (e.g., IMAC 2025, NNM2024)
Facilities: The ILA operates advanced test facilities, including an altitude test bench for engine modules and labs for nonlinear dynamics research. Collaborations with companies like MTU Aero Engines and international partners drive technological innovation.
