Dr. Mallory Marsh serves as an Assistant Professor and Director of the Speech Team at James Madison University's School of Communication Studies since 2020. She holds a B.J. from the University of Nebraska, an M.A. from the University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Public Culture with a specialization in Women’s and Gender Studies from the University of Nebraska.
Research Focus: Her work employs critical rhetorical feminist inquiry to examine whiteness, white supremacy, gender, racialized violence, and public memory. Her research has been published in journals such as Women’s Studies in Communication, Communication Teacher, Argumentation and Advocacy, and Communication Studies.
Teaching: She instructs courses including The Mobilization of Hate, Feminist Blogging, Oral Interpretation, Communication and Gender, and Feminist Rhetorics, among others. She also coordinates the Intro to WGSS program.
Prior Experience: Before JMU, Dr. Marsh directed the Forensics program at Bethel College (KS) and held teaching/coaching roles during her graduate studies. She actively mentors the Speech Team and contributes to JMU’s academic and extracurricular community.
Personal: Enjoys gardening, kayaking, and outdoor adventures in the Shenandoah Valley.
