Her publications include influential articles in journals like Quarterly Journal of Speech and Rhetoric Society Quarterly, as well as her monograph A Question of Sex: Feminism, Rhetoric, and Differences That Matter (2014). Her research explores how marginalized communities construct and contest narratives of identity through place-based rhetorics.
Key research themes include:
- Rhetorics of Black freedom movements
- Gendered spatial politics of memory
- Intersectional analyses of race, sex, and citizenship
Her recent work critiques post-Dobbs abortion rights discourse (Communication Education, 2024) and examines white heteronormative citizenship narratives (2017). Poirot’s interdisciplinary approach integrates feminist rhetorical methodologies with archival and spatial analysis, contributing to fields of public memory studies and critical race theory.
