Malin Ahlbäck is a Research Fellow in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Oslo, affiliated with the Section of Physical Geography and Hydrology. Her primary focus is on hydrology, hydrologic modeling, snow dynamics, and geoinformatics. She holds an MSc and BSc in Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science.
She teaches courses such as GEO2330 – Hydrology and GEO4340 – Fluvial Hydrology. Her research explores snow-atmosphere interactions and their impact on hydrological systems, with a particular interest in sublimation effects on hydrological forecasting and hydropower production. She is a core member of the SnowSub project, investigating snow sublimation in Norway’s hydropower context.
Prior roles include energy hydrology forecasting at Volue (2022–2023), climate change advocacy with UNICEF in Nepal (2020–2021), and fieldwork at GeoBasis Zackenberg in Greenland (2018–2020). She is part of the Land-ATmosphere Interactions in Cold Environments (LATICE) research group.
No scientific awards are explicitly listed, but her work contributes to advancing hydropower and climate adaptation strategies through interdisciplinary research.
