Malena López Reyes is a Research Fellow and PhD student at Aalborg University's Department of Communication and Psychology, within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. She is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network Fellow (2021-2025) under the EU Horizon 2020-funded ODECO project, focusing on open data ecosystems and local government data utilization.

Her research explores how open government data can generate social value, particularly addressing data interoperability challenges in public services like women's justice systems. She advocates for human-centered approaches to technology, aiming to leverage digital tools for community-driven solutions to social and environmental issues.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing inclusive city-making and sustainable transitions. She has collaborated on projects analyzing spatial data infrastructure (EuroSDR) and participatory urban policies.
