معرفی
Malcolm Possell is a Research Fellow in Biosphere-Atmosphere Interaction at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Sydney. His work focuses on measuring and modeling trace gas fluxes between the biosphere and atmosphere, with expertise in climate change impacts, biomass burning, and ecological interactions. He is affiliated with the Sydney Environment Institute, Sydney Institute of Agriculture, and Sydney Southeast Asia Centre.
Research interests include plant resistance to environmental stresses, olfactory misinformation in wildlife management, coral symbiosis under thermal stress, and biodegradable plastic impacts on soils. He has been recognized as a finalist for the 2024 Eureka Prize. His grants include projects on mitigating herbivore damage via sensory tactics and optimizing fuel reduction burning for carbon and water balance.
- Key Grants:
- "Odour misinformation: a new way to reduce vertebrate pest damage to plantation seedlings" (2025)
- "Manipulating foraging efficiency of mammalian herbivores with plant odours" (2019)
- Labs/Teams: Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams at Sydney Environment Institute and Sydney Institute of Agriculture.
Publications span 20+ years, emphasizing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in plant stress responses, coral resilience, and agricultural sustainability. His work bridges ecological theory with practical applications in conservation and climate science.
