Professor Malcolm Granat is affiliated with the School of Health & Society at the University of Salford. He serves as Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Prosthetics and Orthotics and co-founded the International Scientific Society for the Measurement of Physical Behaviour (ISMPB), where he held the role of Past President. His work focuses on quantifying free-living physical behavior using body-worn monitors, with applications in stroke recovery, osteoarthritis, intermittent claudication, and elderly populations.
Research Highlights: His projects include developing sensor-based systems for prosthetic prescriptions, creating adjustable upper limb prosthetics for Ugandan clinical services, and designing behavioral interventions to reduce sedentary work practices (e.g., SMART Work & Life). He has contributed to circadian physical behavior analysis and gait evaluation frameworks for clinical practice.
