Majken Karoline Jensen

Majken Karoline Jensen is a Professor in the Department of Public Health, Section of Epidemiology at the University of Copenhagen's Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. She also holds an Adjunct Professor position at Harvard University (2020-2025). Her academic journey includes previous appointments as Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Jensen earned her PhD in Epidemiology from Aarhus University (2008) and her MSc in Public Health Science from the University of Copenhagen (2005). Her research focuses on biomarkers for chronic aging-related diseases including fatty liver disease, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, cognitive impairment, and dementia. She investigates high-dimensional data through genome-wide association studies, metabolomics, and proteomics within observational epidemiology frameworks.

Her work prominently features methodological advancements in epidemiological investigation of biomarkers, particularly using Mendelian Randomization, pathway analyses, and layering of high-dimensional data. Recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on metabolic factors related to cognitive decline and dementia, with particular attention to fatty acids, sphingolipids, and other biomarkers. Her research often utilizes large cohort studies including the Cardiovascular Health Study and the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis.

Dr. Jensen leads projects funded by prestigious organizations including the Novo Nordisk Foundation Challenge Grant for the research project 'Harnessing the Power of Big Data to Address the Societal Challenge of Ageing,' the American Diabetes Association, the Bright Focus Foundation, and NIH. She teaches Cardiovascular Epidemiology, Mendelian Randomization, and genome-wide association studies to graduate students at Harvard, and Epidemiology to medical students at the University of Copenhagen.
