Maja Travar

Prof. Maja Travar is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Banja Luka, in the Department of Medical Microbiology. Her expertise lies in medical microbiology, virology, and infectious diseases. She has contributed significantly to research on SARS-CoV-2, antimicrobial resistance, and tuberculosis immunology. Her work includes studies on vaccine efficacy, natural product-based antiviral agents, and epidemiological analysis of infectious diseases in Balkan regions.

Research interests encompass viral pathogenesis, bacterial resistance mechanisms, and diagnostic innovations. Key publications focus on SARS-CoV-2 antibody responses, computational modeling of antiviral compounds, and spatio-temporal tracking of pandemic measures. She leads a project exploring natural inhibitors of viral entry mechanisms funded by the Republic of Srpska's Ministry of Innovation, collaborating with universities and researchers in drug discovery.

Co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including works on interferon lambda in tuberculosis and BK virus nephropathy. Her teaching spans medical microbiology and laboratory diagnostics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She actively participates in national and international conferences, presenting on topics like fungal infection diagnostics and pandemic control strategies.
