Maja Krajinovic is a Full Professor at the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Medicine, affiliated with the Departments of Pediatrics and Pharmacology. She leads the pharmacogenomics laboratory at the Azrieli Research Center of CHU Sainte-Justine. Her research focuses on personalized medicine approaches for pediatric cancers, particularly acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). She holds prestigious awards, including the FRSQ National Researcher Award, and has secured over 36 research grants from agencies like the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
Education:
- MD, University of Belgrade (1982)
- Master’s in Human Genetics (1986)
- PhD in Molecular Biology (1991)
- Postdoctoral training in cancer genetics at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (Trieste, Italy) and CHU Sainte-Justine
Research Interests: Pharmacogenomics of ALL, HSCT complications, microDNA as a biomarker for cancer prognosis, and genetic determinants of drug response. Her lab identified key genetic markers for treatment toxicity and disease recurrence, advancing personalized therapies.
Grants & Awards:
- 36+ funded grants (CIHR, FRQS, CCSRI, etc.)
- 107+ publications (including 5 book chapters)
Labs/Teams: Leads the pharmacogenomics team at CHU Sainte-Justine, collaborating with the GRUM (Genetic Drug Research Group) and Cancer Research Society.
