Maja Kofod Jensen is a Researcher at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Theology, Department of Theology. She joined the university in August 2025 to work on her PhD thesis in connection with the research project 'What are the greening dynamics of religion?' which she has been involved with since May 2024 under the supervision of Professor Jens Köhrsen.
Her academic interests focus on the relationship between religion and the environment/climate, particularly examining how religion and spirituality can contribute to (or counteract) a sustainable transition of society. Her research investigates how environmental and sustainability themes are integrated within religious organizations and their effects on members' religiosity and environmental behavior.
Dr. Jensen's research spans several key interdisciplinary areas:
- Religion and Society
- Lived Religion
- Congregational Studies
- Religion and Ecology
- Sociology of Religion
- Religion and Climate Change
Before joining the University of Oslo, Dr. Jensen completed her education at Aarhus University in Denmark, where she earned a degree in religious studies and political science. Her Master's thesis from January 2024 examined nature spirituality among young Danish environmental activists using Bron Taylor's theory of 'dark green religion'.
Dr. Jensen has teaching experience from her time at Aarhus University, where she worked as a teaching assistant in bachelor's courses on 'history of religion' and 'Christianity and Islam'. Her current research represents an important contribution to understanding the role of religion in contemporary environmental challenges.
