Maja Hriešik

Maja Hriešik is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Dance Creation within the Faculty of Music and Dance at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. She has held this position since 2015 and specializes in dance dramaturgy, aesthetics, and dance history. Her work integrates contemporary performance practices across dance, opera, and film.

Education:

• Bachelor/Master: Aesthetics (Faculty of Fine Arts, Comenius University, 2003)
• Theatre Directing (Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Prague Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, 2005)
• PhD: The Physicality of Contemporary European Theatre (Prague Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, 2009)

Research & Professional Roles: Hriešik’s expertise spans dance dramaturgy, performance theory, and contemporary theatre studies. She has collaborated with non-establishment artists, theatres, and festivals as a director and dramaturg (e.g., Azyl production, RTVS). She served as Head of the Project Department at the Theatre Institute (2006–2010), a dance art researcher (2013–2016), and Editor-in-Chief of Salto magazine (2006–2011). Currently, she leads the Platform for Contemporary Dance as a board member and project manager, supporting freelance dance artists.

Grants & Projects: Her career includes managing cultural initiatives and academic research projects focused on dance art and performance theory.

Labs/Teams: Active in the Platform for Contemporary Dance, a professional network for independent dance practitioners.
