Maireade McSweeney, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and holds multiple roles at Boston Children's Hospital, including Director of Gastroenterology Quality Improvement & Patient Safety, Attending Physician in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and Co-Director of the Enteral Tube Program. She specializes in pediatric gastroenterology, with expertise in aerodigestive disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and quality improvement initiatives.
Dr. McSweeney's education includes an undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College (1998), a Master of Public Health from Boston University (2005), and an MD from Boston University School of Medicine (2005). She completed her residency at the Boston Combined Residency Program (2008) and a fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Boston Children's Hospital (2011).
Her research focuses on improving patient care through multidisciplinary collaboration, particularly in aerodigestive medicine and reducing unnecessary diagnostic imaging in pediatric constipation cases. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in both General Pediatrics and Gastroenterology.
Dr. McSweeney’s work emphasizes patient safety and care integration, as evidenced by her leadership roles and publications on quality improvement and program evaluation. She is actively involved in the Aerodigestive Center and contributes to advancing clinical practices in pediatric gastroenterology.
