Alexandra Carey, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and an Attending Physician in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Boston Children’s Hospital. She serves as Director of the Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN) Program and is affiliated with the Center for Advanced Intestinal Rehabilitation (CAIR). Her clinical and research focus centers on pediatric gastrointestinal disorders, intestinal failure, and nutritional management. Dr. Carey holds certifications from the American Board of Pediatrics in both General Pediatrics and Gastroenterology.
She completed medical school at the University of South Florida College of Medicine (2008), followed by residency and internship there (2009–2011). She pursued dual fellowships: Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (2014), and Advanced Clinical Nutrition at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (2015).
Her research emphasizes improving outcomes for children with intestinal failure, feeding intolerance, and gut-brain axis disorders. Recent publications address anastomotic ulcers, enteral autonomy, and catheter management strategies. She is actively involved in multidisciplinary teams at Boston Children’s, including the Nutrition Center and HPN Program.
