Mairead Conneely

Mairead Conneely is a Researcher at the Ageing Research Centre within the School of Allied Health at the University of Limerick. She holds a PhD (2023) and has extensive experience in geriatric care, sports physiotherapy, and healthcare interventions for older adults. Her work focuses on improving outcomes for elderly patients through physiotherapy-led interventions, emergency department care optimization, and community-based exercise programs.

Education: B.Sc. (Hons) in Physiotherapy (Trinity College Dublin, 2000), Masters in Sports Physiotherapy (Curtin University, 2004), Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (NUIG, 2014), and PhD (2023).

Research interests include emergency department transitions, chronic pain management, occupational therapy interventions, and systematic reviews of healthcare interventions. She has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed publications since 2005, focusing on geriatric care, musculoskeletal conditions, and healthcare policy.

Teaching roles include guest lecturing at NUIG School of Podiatry and School of Medicine, and portfolio tutoring for postgraduate clinical education programs.

Awards: Anne O'Brien Award for Clinical Excellence (2000), ISCP Level 3 Sports Physiotherapy Accreditation (2009), ISCP Specialist Membership in Sports Medicine (2011).

Grants and collaborations: Active in multidisciplinary research teams addressing aging-related health challenges, including studies on nutritional care in emergency departments and the impact of acute healthcare utilization on functional decline.
