Maija Taka is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Aalto University's Department of Built Environment, School of Engineering. She holds a Doctoral degree (D.Sc.) in Natural Sciences from the University of Helsinki (2017) and a Master's degree in the same field (2012). Her research focuses on urban hydrology, water quality, spatial analysis, and interdisciplinary education, with contributions to sustainable development goals like clean water, climate action, and responsible consumption.
Key areas of expertise include flood risk assessment, interdisciplinary learning strategies, and geospatial analysis of environmental and socio-economic drivers. Notable projects include integrating community voices into flood early warning systems in Nepal and analyzing global migration patterns linked to environmental and social factors. She has received awards such as the Aalto Excellence Award (2018) and Best Research Paper 2023 Award for contributions to engineering pedagogy.
Her work bridges environmental science and education, with publications examining urban water management, climate change impacts on food systems, and graduate competency profiles. She actively contributes to international collaborations, such as the International Long-Term Ecological Research Network (ILTER), and has produced datasets on GDP, human development indexes, and river basin stress assessments.
