Maia Lesosky is a Professor and Chair of Medical Statistics at the National Heart & Lung Institute, part of Imperial College London's Faculty of Medicine. She leads the iTARA research program addressing respiratory diseases in Africa through interdisciplinary approaches. Her expertise spans biostatistics, epidemiology, and global public health, with a focus on respiratory conditions like tuberculosis and lower respiratory infections in sub-Saharan Africa.
Dr. Lesosky holds a PhD in Statistics from the University of Guelph, Canada, and previously worked at the University of Cape Town and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. She leads NIH/NIHR/EDCTP-funded projects and has extensive experience in clinical trial design and observational studies. She currently holds a prestigious Academy of Medical Sciences Professorship.
Her research emphasizes statistical methodology development, capacity-building in low-resource settings, and evidence generation for public health policies. Key areas include malaria control interventions, silicosis diagnostics, and asthma epidemiology in African populations.
Recent work includes Phase III trials of Attractive Targeted Sugar Baits (ATSB) for malaria control, systematic reviews on silica exposure impacts, and the CHEST-Africa observatory for chronic respiratory diseases.
Her scientific recognition includes awards for advancing medical statistics in global health contexts. She collaborates with international networks to address health inequities through data-driven solutions.
