Ruth Ashton is an infectious disease epidemiologist and Associate Professor at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Her implementation research develops evidence-based tools for malaria control programs, currently focusing on cluster randomized trials of vector control interventions in Haiti, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Her research examines interventions such as attractive targeted sugar baits for malaria control, impact evaluation using health information systems, and surveillance through 'easy access groups'. Current projects include a Phase III trial in Zambia assessing novel vector control methods and studies on malaria elimination strategies in Haiti.
Before joining Tulane, Dr. Ashton implemented malaria and neglected tropical disease programs with Malaria Consortium in Ethiopia, Uganda, and Cambodia. She holds a PhD in Epidemiology from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and an MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases.
