Mai Lam is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, since 2023. She served as Assistant Professor at the same department from 2013-2023 and was affiliated with the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the School of Medicine (2014-2020). Her research focuses on cardiovascular tissue engineering, stem cell regenerative medicine, and biomaterials applications.
- Education: B.S.E., M.S.E., and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan (with honors).
- Postdoctoral training at Stanford University under Drs. Joseph Wu and Michael Longaker (2008-2013).
Her work addresses vascular graft development, extracellular matrix interactions, and mechanical stimulation in tissue regeneration. She has taught courses including Cellular and Tissue Biomechanics (2023-2025) and Biocompatibility (2023-2025).
Scientific Awards include the Global Learning Faculty Fellow (2023), Excellence in Teaching Award (2018), and Outstanding Faculty Award (2015) at Wayne State University. She has also received prestigious fellowships such as the Stanford Summer Institute for Entrepreneurship Fellow (2011) and Henzl-Gabor Young Women in Science Travel Fellowship (2010).
