Dr. Mahsa Ebrahim is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), affiliated with the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering since 2018. She specializes in experimental and numerical research in thermal-fluid science, focusing on applications such as electronic cooling, spray cooling, and biomedical device thermal management. Ebrahim leads the MultiPhase Thermal Fluid Science Laboratory, where she collaborates with undergraduate researchers to develop cooling systems for medical devices like brachytherapy needles using shape-memory alloy (SMA) wires.
- Education:
- B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, K.N.Toosi University of Technology (2009)
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Villanova University (2017)
Her research emphasizes practical solutions for complex thermal challenges, such as maintaining precise temperature control in medical devices during surgical procedures. Ebrahim is also the advisor for the Loyola Marymount Aerospace Research Society (LoyolaMARS), which engages students in rocket design and propulsion projects. She champions hands-on learning, encouraging students to pursue research aligned with their passions. Recently, she led an Experience LMU seminar on rocket design, highlighting LMU’s opportunities for applied engineering education.
Ebrahim’s teaching philosophy centers on fostering creativity and reliability in engineering design through collaborative classroom and lab experiences. She emphasizes the importance of undergraduate research and professional development for future careers in aerospace and mechanical engineering.
