Maheswari Mukherjee

Maheswari Mukherjee, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Director of the Cytology Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center's (UNMC) College of Allied Health Professions. She holds a PhD in Medical Sciences (2012) from UNMC, an MSc in Anatomy (2004) from Mahatma Gandhi University (India), and a BPT in Physical Therapy (2000) from Dr. MGR Medical University (India). Dr. Mukherjee pioneered the use of virtual microscopy in cytology education, expanding UNMC's Cytology Program into a national leader in distance education. She has received prestigious awards including the 2013 UNMC Alumni Early Career Achievement Award and the 2017 CAHP Innovative Scholarship Award.

Her research focuses on digital pathology, e-learning innovations, and diagnostic cytology, with particular emphasis on eye movement analysis during diagnostic training and maternal-fetal health biomarkers. She actively promotes interprofessional education through virtual technologies and collaborative grant initiatives. Dr. Mukherjee’s work bridges clinical practice, education, and technology, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare training and maternal health research.
