Mahdi Moradpour

Mahdi Moradpour is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, Tallinn University of Technology, specializing in CRISPR-based transcriptional activation, plant stress tolerance, and genetic engineering. Previously, he worked as a Research Assistant at Universiti Putra Malaysia (2015–2020), focusing on plant biotechnology and molecular biology.

• PhD in Genetic Engineering and Molecular Biology (2021), supervised by Prof. Siti Nor Akmar Binti Abdullah, Universiti Putra Malaysia.
• MSc in Agricultural Biotechnology (2015), supervised by Dr. Maheran Abdul Aziz, Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Research Interests include leveraging CRISPR/dCas9 platforms for non-edited gene regulation, enhancing heat stress tolerance in Brassica through transcriptional networks, and optimizing gene expression elements via bioinformatics. His work also addresses waterlogging tolerance in millet, tocotrienol biosynthesis in oil palm, and cloning methodologies for plant DNA.

Publications span 2016–2021, with a focus on plant biotechnology, molecular techniques, and stress-responsive gene networks. Key journals include Plant Biotechnology Journal, Meta Gene, and Current Chinese Science, alongside book chapters on cis/intragenesis and gene expression optimization.

Projects include leading gene expression regulation in ovarian somatic cells (2021–2025, €560,000 funded by Estonian Research Council), and prior work on Brassica tissue culture and rubber tree regeneration.
