Dr. Maha Asham serves as an Adjunct Faculty member and is a globally recognized medical doctor and public health expert with field experience across 22 countries, eight regions, and five continents. Her academic career includes faculty appointments at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, while her UN service encompasses roles as a medical officer at WHO and senior consultant positions at UNFPA, UNICEF, and the Global Fund.
Her research focuses on academic-community collaborative public health partnerships, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, youth mixed migrants, and global HIV/AIDS prevention. She pioneered the WHO Orientation Program on Adolescent Health and the Adolescent Friendly Health Services initiative, developing frameworks adopted internationally by institutions like the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Dr. Asham has led landmark projects including the first UN multi-country study on youth mixed migrants and the Johns Hopkins Tribal Education Program, establishing Academic-Tribal-Government partnerships with 30+ American Indian nations. Currently, she addresses COVID-19 prevention and infodemic management, earning recognition as a featured Johns Hopkins alumna for her pandemic response contributions.
