Magnus Wikström is a Professor at the Department of Economics within the Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics (USBE) at Umeå University. His research focuses on education policy, taxation, public economics, labor economics, and regional development. He has contributed significantly to understanding admissions criteria in higher education, the impacts of childcare reforms, and fiscal policies affecting local economies.
His work spans empirical studies on the effectiveness of merit-based admissions, the role of standardized testing in university selection, and the economic implications of municipal reforms. He is a member of the Economic Policy Network and has been recognized with the Nordeas thesis award for contributions to diversity and inclusion in academia. Wikström’s research often bridges theoretical economic models with real-world policy analysis, emphasizing equity and efficiency in public sector decision-making.
