Magnus Korpås is a Professor at the Department of Electric Energy, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), within the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. His research focuses on renewable energy integration, power markets, and sustainable energy systems. He has held leadership roles in multiple national and international projects, including FME CINELDI and NorthWind, and collaborates with institutions like MIT and SINTEF.
He earned his PhD (2004) and MSc (1998) in Electric Power Engineering from NTNU. His career includes roles as Research Director at SINTEF Energi and Visiting Scholar at MIT (2018-2019). He advises on energy policy and has published extensively on topics like hydropower flexibility, grid planning, and decarbonization pathways.
His teaching responsibilities include courses on energy planning, offshore wind systems, and power market theory. He has supervised numerous PhD candidates and master’s projects, emphasizing energy transition, grid integration, and sustainable systems.
Key research themes include market design for renewables, energy storage optimization, and Norway’s role as a balancing asset for European energy systems. He actively engages in media and public discourse on energy policy, advocating for pragmatic approaches to electrification and renewable integration.
