Magne Mogstad is the Gary S. Becker Distinguished Service Professor in Economics at the University of Chicago's Department of Economics (since 2014). He holds additional roles as a Senior Research Fellow at Statistics Norway and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). His research focuses on public economics, labor economics, and policy evaluation, particularly addressing issues of social mobility, inequality, and tax policy. Professor Mogstad earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Oslo (2008).
His work spans topics such as the effects of taxation on labor supply, intergenerational mobility, and the design of public policies. Key grants include NSF funding for research on employer-employee data and intergenerational mobility ($428,460) and a Norwegian Research Council grant investigating labor market inequality ($1.3 million).
Mogstad directs the Ronzetti Initiative for the Study of Labor Markets at the Becker Friedman Institute, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration. His research often employs advanced econometric techniques to address policy-relevant questions, with applications to Nordic welfare systems and global economic challenges.
