Magdalene J. Seiler is an Associate Professor in Residence at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), holding joint appointments in Anatomy & Neurobiology, Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Her research focuses on retinal regeneration using stem cell-derived organoids and cellular transplantation therapies. She leads studies on retinal degeneration models, immunosuppression strategies for transplants, and the development of retinal organoids for vision restoration.
- Education: Ph.D. from Max-Planck-Institute for Neurochemistry (Ludwig-Maximilians-University, 1985)
- Research Highlights: Co-grafts of retinal organoids and RPE, extrinsic electric field modulation of organoid development, and long-term functional imaging of organoids.
- Affiliations: UCI School of Medicine, UC Irvine Health, and collaborations with institutions like USC.
Her work combines stem cell biology, neuroscience, and translational medicine to develop therapies for conditions like age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa. Key advancements include optimizing transplantation protocols, validating animal models, and improving organoid differentiation techniques.
