Magdalena Wdowicka-Mackiewicz

Magdalena Wdowicka-Mackiewicz is an Associate Professor at Poznan Academy of Music, serving as Director of the Institute of Conducting since October 2020 after previously leading the Choral Conducting Department from 2012 to 2020. She is affiliated with the Faculty of Composition, Conducting, Vocal Studies, Music Theory and Artistic Education.

Her academic credentials include:

• Habilitated doctor (dr hab.) in Musical Arts
• Professor title in Musical Arts awarded by the President of Poland (2016)

Specializing in choral conducting with deep expertise in Renaissance and Baroque performance practice, she pioneers research in South American Baroque music through collaboration with Father Professor Piotr Nawrot. Her artistic-scholarly work bridges historical authenticity with contemporary choral interpretation, significantly advancing early music performance standards in Central Europe.

Her international recognition includes multiple prizes at the prestigious Concorso Internazionale di Canto Corale Seghizzi Gorizia (2016), where her ensemble secured top honors in both Renaissance and Baroque categories while receiving special artistic merit recognition. This reflects her distinctive approach to historically informed performance.

State honors include the Bronze Cross of Merit (2007), Medal of the National Education Commission (2013), and Silver Medal for Long Service (2017), acknowledging her dual contributions to artistic excellence and music education.

Mentoring 27 conductors who now lead ensembles across Poland and internationally, she maintains active artistic leadership through the Chamber Choir Dysonans (conductor since 1991). Recent work includes groundbreaking participation in Bolivia's XII Festival Internacional de Música Renacentista y Barroca Americana "Misiones de Chiquitos" (2018), extending her research to colonial-era South American repertoire.
