Magdalena Adamek

Magdalena Adamek is an Assistant Professor of Piano and Collaborative Piano and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies in the Department of Music at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), part of the VCUarts School of the Arts. She holds a Master of Arts in Piano Performance from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music (Warsaw, Poland) and a Doctor of Music from the University of Alberta (Canada). Her professional network includes collaborations with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, VCU faculty, and international artists.

Adamek’s performance career spans solo and chamber music, with recitals in Poland, Germany, Austria, Lithuania, France, China, the USA, and Canada. She specializes in works by Polish composers like Feliks Nowowiejski, Maria Szymanowska, and Fryderyk Chopin. Her discography includes five CDs for Acte Prèalable, featuring world premieres of compositions by Polish composers.

Her scholarly work includes a book, The Unknown Face of Feliks Nowowiejski (2008), and articles on music history. She is a recipient of prestigious awards such as the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship and has been supported by organizations like the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies and the Kosciuszko Foundation. Adamek also conducts masterclasses on piano technique, performance anxiety, and historical Polish repertoire.
