Magalí Rabasa

Magalí Rabasa is an Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies and Director of Ethnic Studies at Lewis & Clark College since 2016. She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from UC Davis (2014) and a BA in Spanish and International Studies from the University of Oregon. Her research explores social movements, alternative media, and feminist theory in the Americas, with a focus on Mexico, Argentina, and the U.S.

Her work analyzes grassroots publishing networks, autonomous politics, and decolonial praxis. Notable publications include The Book in Movement (2019), which examines print culture in Latin American social movements, and co-edited volumes like Pandemic Solidarity: Mutual Aid in the Covid-19 Crisis (2020). Her articles appear in Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies, A Contracorriente, and Anthropology Today.

Rabasa’s research trends emphasize transnational solidarity, decolonial theory, and the intersection of cultural production with political action. Her writing bridges academic and activist spaces, often engaging with Zapatista movements and feminist critiques of colonialism.

Her advising and grants focus on Latin American studies and ethnic studies initiatives. She leads the Hispanic Studies Program and collaborates with the Miller Center for the Humanities.
