Maeve Hooper serves as Assistant Senior Instructional Professor and Director of the German Language Program in the Department of Germanic Studies at the University of Chicago, where she has taught since 2019. Her academic leadership spans curriculum design, assessment development, and placement advising for the German language program.

Research FocusDr. Hooper specializes in 19th-20th century German literature and culture, with particular expertise in narratology, the novella form, German Romanticism, and Poetic Realism. Her scholarly work extends to literary/visual representations of World War I and Weimar Republic culture, while her pedagogical research advances communicative and task-based language learning methodologies.
