Ingrid Zeller is a Professor of Instruction in the German Department at Northwestern University. She teaches courses at all levels and directs the German Writing Center. Her research and teaching focus on curriculum design, architecture, music, and urban development, with notable projects like the Bauhaus and Beyond web initiative and interactive architecture tours in Chicago. She also coordinates the summer program Berlin: Global City in the Center of Europe.
Education: Trained as a pianist at the Manhattan School of Music, followed by graduate studies in German language, culture, and literature at Columbia University. Professional Affiliations: Chair of the Council on Language Instruction (CLI) at Northwestern, faculty adviser for the German Undergraduate Advisory Board (GUAB), and volunteer docent for the Chicago Architecture Center.
She actively collaborates with organizations like the Association for Teachers of German (AATG) and Goethe-Institut Chicago, serving in leadership roles nationally and regionally. Her awards include the AATG/Goethe-Institut Merit Award and multiple teaching recognitions.
Key contributions include co-founding the Northern Illinois College German Student Immersion Day and directing AATG study abroad programs in Bonn. She also organizes interdisciplinary events blending music, performance, and language learning.
