Madeline Woker

Dr. Madeline Woker is a Lecturer in Modern European History at the University of Sheffield's School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities. Her research examines the intersections of colonialism, capitalism, and taxation in modern France and its empire.

• Historical development of international tax governance
• Economic dimensions of colonial statecraft
• Afterlives of colonial economic structures

Her current book project analyzes taxation politics across the French colonial empire from the 1850s to 1950s. She also writes publicly on contemporary international taxation systems and colonial legacies. Dr. Woker holds a PhD from Columbia University and has held positions at Cambridge University and Brown University.
