Madeline Kurtz is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Dance department at Shenandoah University's Conservatory, employed since 2023. She is a choreographer, performer, educator, and adjudicator straddling the concert and commercial dance worlds, currently based in Tampa, Florida.
- Education: B.A. from Colby College, M.F.A. from SUNY Brockport
Her research explores the intersection of American dance competitions and academia, focusing on overlaps in training and performance practices. Her choreographic works under the moniker MKrep. emphasize depth, humor/parody, and theatricality, presented nationally in academic and professional settings.
Kurtz's creative and written scholarship has been featured at conferences such as the American Culture/Popular Culture Association, National Dance Education Organization, and Dance Studies Association. She has collaborated with contemporary dance leaders like Alison Bory, Julia Burrer, and Paul Matteson.
Additional qualifications include a 200-hour yoga certification (2012), Classical Pilates Mat Certification (2017), and extensive arts administration experience at institutions like the American Dance Festival, Joyce Theater, and Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC).
