Madeline J. Williams is an Assistant Professor at Suffolk University's Department of History, Language, and Global Culture within the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD from Harvard University and a BA from Swarthmore College, positioning disability as a critical lens for analyzing U.S. politics and culture in her research.

Her research focuses on disability history, emphasizing intersections with race, class, gender, and sexuality. Her current book project, Disability Democracy: Blind-Led Organizing and the Making of Modern America, examines 19th-century blind-led associations and their impact on 20th-century disability policy. This work bridges social movements, technology, and public history through case studies of grassroots activism.
Williams has received research support from prestigious organizations including the American Historical Association, Center for American Political Studies, Charles Warren Center for Studies in American History, Consortium for History of Science, Technology, and Medicine, and Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. Prior to Suffolk, she taught at the University of Chicago and Boston University.
