Madelain Anne

Anne Madelain is a Lecturer in History and Civilization of the Contemporary Balkans at the European Department of INALCO. She holds a PhD from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (2015) and specializes in the post-Yugoslav space, cultural transformations in Central and Eastern Europe, and French perceptions of the Balkans. Her research focuses on historical memory, publishing dynamics, and the construction of European knowledge about Eastern Europe.

Research Interests: Her work explores post-Yugoslav cultural and political transformations, the historiography of Eastern Europe, and the role of publishing in shaping national and transnational identities. Her studies also analyze independent publishing networks in post-Yugoslav states and their role in preserving cultural memory.

Publications & Grants: Her 2019 book L'expérience française des Balkans examines French engagement with Balkan crises (1989–1999). Recent articles address topics like post-Yugoslav publishing ecosystems and the representation of Eastern Europe in school curricula. She has received grants from the French National Research Agency (ANR) for projects on Balkan cultural dynamics.
