Maddalena Fiordelli

Maddalena Fiordelli is a Senior Lecturer and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Public Health (IPH) within the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). Her research focuses on health communication, digital health interventions for dementia caregivers, and pandemic response strategies. She leads key projects like CoPeC and “Free from Fear,” which reframe dementia through caregiver perspectives. Dr. Fiordelli holds a PhD supported by an SNF scholarship and has held roles at Swiss Paraplegic Research and the University of Lucerne.

Education: Completed her PhD with an SNF scholarship, including a visiting research year at the University of Amsterdam (2007–2008).

Research interests emphasize community-based participatory approaches to healthcare, multi-stakeholder communication, and the role of technology in improving care. Her work addresses social isolation, caregiver burden, and institutional crisis communication during health emergencies.

Her recent articles (2023–2024) highlight trends in pandemic communication strategies, digital health interventions for dementia caregivers, and cross-cultural adaptations of care programs. Key contributions include studies on cognitive impacts of SARS-CoV-2 and multilingualism’s cognitive benefits in aging populations.
