Macs Smith is a Career Development Fellow in French at The Queen's College, University of Oxford. His research focuses on the intersection of media, biopolitics, and urban studies. He holds a PhD from Princeton University's Department of French and Italian (2018) and a BA from the College of William and Mary (2011). His first monograph, Paris and the Parasite: Noise, Health, and Politics in the Media City (MIT Press, 2021), explores anti-parasitic urbanism in Paris through Michel Serres's theories. His current project, Staging Presence, examines screen culture and technology's impact on contemporary French theatre. Smith teaches modern French literature (1800–present) and translation at Queen’s, co-convenes a postgraduate critical theory seminar, and has held roles including Hamilton Junior Research Fellow (2018) and Career Development Fellowship (2020).
