Dr Sinan Richards is a British Academy Research Fellow at King’s College London, affiliated with the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. He holds a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford and previously taught at the École normale supérieure de Paris. His research focuses on twentieth-century European and Francophone philosophy, anti-colonial theory, and the intersections of critical theory, gender, and decoloniality. He is currently writing a book on Lacan and Fanon, exploring their shared insights into freedom and psychosis.
Dr Richards has held roles including departmental representative on King’s Early Career Committee and serves on multiple academic boards, including the Université Paris Cité’s CRIPOLIS advisory board. He is an elected member of the Society for French Studies executive committee and leads their DEI initiatives. His editorial work includes roles at French Studies and the Paragraph journal.
His research spans psychoanalysis, comparative literature with feminist and cultural studies lenses, and the philosophy of figures like Lacan, Sartre, and Fanon. Recent publications address topics such as Serres’s parasitism theory, Fanon’s psychopathology critiques, and Lacanian readings of early modern texts.
Dr Richards teaches advanced courses on Lacanian psychoanalysis, French philosophy, and comparative cultural studies at King’s. His work bridges literary analysis with critical theory, contributing to debates on decolonial thought and interdisciplinary methods.
